Potato Animal Pests

Asked April 24, 2016, 8:10 PM EDT

We are trying to grow potatoes in bags. However, something is digging them up and eating them. What animals might be suspect and do you have any recommendations for control? Thanks.

The more common pests that destroy potatoes are rodents, such as voles, mice, and probably squirrels. If the pest is digging into the surface of the soil to reach the potatoes, you may be able to deter further incursions by sprinkling crushed oyster shell on the surface. This product is sold at most farm stores that cater to the poultry trade.
