Trees

Asked April 20, 2016, 6:09 PM EDT

What kind of fast growing non flowering trees would be good to plant in my front hard southwest corner so the house doesn't continue to get baked by the sun summer after summer?

There are several options, but first can you tell me how large your front yard is (approximately) and whether you are sheltering a one or two story house? Thanks.

my front yard is about 1/4 acre. My total lot is .75 acre

2 story house

Some good choices would be Heritage® River Birch (Betula nigra ‘Cully’ H70'W60' or ‘Dura-Heat’ H40'W35'), Red Maple (Acer rubrum ‘Red Sunset’H50'W40' or ‘October Glory’h50'W40'), or Swamp White Oak (Quercus bicolor H60'W60'). If you prefer an evergreen consider Japanese Cedar (Cryptomeria japonica 'Radicans' H40'W20'. Height and width are maximum at maturity.
