Hydrangea problem

Asked April 19, 2016, 4:46 PM EDT

I live in Baltimore Maryland and have two hydrangeas that have small new leaf growth that is turning brown. Some of the leaves are dry and crumbly. Other leaves near the base look normal. These hydrangeas had gorgeous flowers last summer. Is it because we are having a dry Spring? What do you recommend? Thank you

Your plants were "burnt" from a late frost and below freezing temperatures after leafing out. Many plants were tricked into thinking spring was here following the unseasonable warm temperatures and began breaking dormancy. The plants will recover but blooms may be effected.or non existing for this season. Wait a couple of weeks then prune out the dead material to a viable leaf or bud.
