How to kill dandelions without killing daisies and grass

Asked April 18, 2016, 6:54 PM EDT

We'd like to kill the dandelions in our 1/2 acre field on the Deschutes River in Deschutes county without killing the wild daisies and/or grass AND not cause any damage to the river. What would you recommend? Would a vinegar mixture work? Adding salt? Thank you in advance!

It will be very difficult to control the dandelion without harming the daisies if you make a broadcast application of a herbicide. If you want to not control the daisies but kill the dandelions you will need to make a spot application of a herbicide containing 2,4-d + dicamba. There are many products available. I would not recommend vinegar or salt...in my experience they are ineffective. They will burn off the above ground portion of the weed quickly, but it will regrow. 2,4-D + dicamba will not harm desirable grasses.
