Box Elder Tree Flowers

Asked April 18, 2016, 11:55 AM EDT

We are trying to identify our box elder trees. What do the flowers look like in the spring? The bugs are driving us crazy. We want to get rid of the trees! Thank You!!

The small flowers appear in drooping clusters - do a google search for "acer negundo flower" and you'll see what they look like.

The bark is grey or brown, scaly and/or ridged.Branches are smooth, somewhat brittle, and often remain green rather than developing brown bark immediately. Unlike most other maples, which have simple, palmate (hand-shaped) leaves, box elder has pinnately compound leaves (with 5+ leaflets).

Good luck finding and getting rid of all of them!
