help with wetlands planting

Asked April 16, 2016, 3:05 PM EDT

I just bought a house with a stream running through the backyard. It's currently a mess, and I'd like to create a natural area that's welcoming to wildlife. I'm new to the Eastern U.S. and don't recognize your invasive vs beneficial plants. Any chance someone would look at this yard (within Mt. Airy city limits) and tell me what's best for it?

Begin by looking at some of our publications on Riparian Buffers and design. This allows for a buffer area on land next to a stream and plantings that stabilize the streambank and wetlands to absorb storm runoff. Plantings are also suggested
