Prenniels for above ground flower bed north of Brainerd

Asked April 16, 2016, 12:17 PM EDT

Hello - At our cabin, we have an wheel rim filled with dirt with light post in middle. For years we have planted annuals but wonder if there is possible prenniel flower that might tolerate winter above ground. BTW we have deer that eat hostas. We do have day lilies elsewhere that do well but wonder if they would survive. What ate your recommendations?

Crow Wing County Minnesota native perennials

Daylilies should do just fine in this area. I assume that you don't want anything too tall, but there are lots of native plants that could work.

Deer will eat anything if they get hungry enough - although some plants seem to be automatic deer magnets!

Here are some links for you to look over. You probably should use plants that don't need a lot of water - I'd worry about the wooden pole rotting.
