hypertufa, garden veggies, self watering

Asked April 14, 2016, 6:32 PM EDT

Is it possible, or should I say healthy to grow food plants (tomatoes, peppers etc) in hypertufa pots? Is it possible to make the hyperfufa pots self watering using wicking or would that destory the cement and leech it into the food?

There is no issue with the materials used to make hypertufa pots and edible plants. I would have more concerns about them setting in water and I think it would break down the concrete mix. I cannot see how they could easily be made to self water. I guess you could give it a try. I also am not for sure how you blend a self watering basin with the pot and have a nice look.
