Is Liberty apple self fertile?

Asked April 14, 2016, 11:03 AM EDT

Several sources state that Liberty apple is self fertile (or self pollinating), requiring no cross pollinating from another variety of apple while other sources state that it is self sterile, triploid that requires two cross pollinating trees or one self fertile pollinator. Others state it is in flowering group 2 and others flowering group 3. What is correct?

It is self-pollinating, but will set more fruit if cross-pollinated by another apple or crabapple cultivar that blooms at the same time as Liberty

Thank you for your response. What sources did you use for your answer? A simple Google search brought me only confusion, as did contact with two separate plant nurseries.

By the way, I just planted a Grimes Golden to act as a pollinator.
