Sowing Rates

I have 30 acres I intend to plant to native grasses, it has been suggested I use 30% Bluestem (WWB-Dahl), 25% Love grass (Wilman), 15% Kleingrass (selection 75), 20% side oats (Haskell), and 10% green sprangletop. Pasture to be used for cattle. How many pounds per acre should I sow ?. It will be broadcast planted.

You have chosen a good mix of seed for the Jones county area. Mathematically speaking, your rate for this mix would be 2.03 pounds per acre. However, being broadcast planted, I would suggest using a rate of 2.5 pounds per acre. This should be sufficient to cover any seed that does not get good placement using this planting method.

Here is a good resource that you may find helpful in seeding and management of new pastures: http://texnat.tamu.edu/about/ranchers-reference-guide/seeding-rangeland/
