Burrow in middle of Yard

Asked April 8, 2016, 12:59 PM EDT

Returned after an extended trip, found a 4 inch burrow/hole in middle of yard. Hole is surrounded by dug up dirt. Hole is on a slant. Picture 1 shows the hole; picture 2 the hole with a ruler & picture 3 the dug up area in middle of yard. What can I do to remove the hole?

The hole in your lawn could be the result of activity by a rat or other rodent. One tactic would be to fill the hole entirely with play sand and observe the reaction. If the hole is repaired, it would be appropriate to place a trap near the hole and see what you catch. If you confirm that it is a rat, you should contact your county rat control office.
