Best shrub for shaded area with deer traffic

Asked April 7, 2016, 1:19 PM EDT

Hello, I have an area beside my house that is on a slope. The area is shaded, but gets decennt filtered light, and I have a lot of deer traffic. What would be some good shrubs to consider for this area. The bigger the better. Thanks, George Eckma

The best that come to mind, given the size you prefer, are nannyberry (Viburnum lentago), American highbush cranberry (Viburnum trilobum), common ninebark (Physocarpos opulifolius), winterberry (Ilex verticillata) and red twig dogwood (Cornus sericea). Deer are more likely to damage winterberry and red twig dogwood than others listed.
