Spring Watering

Asked April 6, 2016, 2:21 PM EDT

We live in Central Denver. We are in our 2nd year in this home and last year put in a lot of new shrubs, roses. grass, etc. Now that we've had an earlier Spring and expect 70s weather for the next couple of weeks, should we begin watering now or wait until May or so?

Denver County Colorado watering watering during dry periods

Watering during dry periods is definitely recommended, especially for new plantings. The recent snowstorm did help considerably with much needed moisture. However, test your soil, if it is moist 3- 4 ins. below the surface you do not need to water. However, if the soil is dry, you should consider watering every 2-3 weeks until the regular watering season begins.
