Compost question

Asked April 3, 2016, 9:29 PM EDT

Is it OK to add the lichen and moss that I find around my yard to my compost? I think it's falling from my oak and fruit trees.

Thanks for the question. Moss and lichen can be composted along with other yard debris. For general composting guidelines check out the Oregon State University Extension publication: http://www.cmastergardeners.org/10-Minute%20University/documents/2014GardeningwCompost.pdf

Another OSU Extension publication extolls potential benefits of moss and lichen even when they are left on the lawn. You can view it at this link: http://extension.oregonstate.edu/gardening/node/1031

Good luck.
