Corn Gluten Meal

Asked April 1, 2016, 11:28 AM EDT

I have well water and have always been leery or avoid using the chemical fertilizers for my lawn. I came across corn gluten meal and realize it is a natural derived product. Is it the perfect substitute for the chemical fertilizers and do they come with different level of nitrogen?

Corn Gluten can be used as fertilizer, but be careful to follow the guidelines for lawn fertilization in Maryland. http://mda.maryland.gov/SiteAssets/Pages/fertilizer/HowToFertilizeYourLawn.pdf It is a very expensive way to fertilize your lawn. You will have to use about four to five times as much per 1000 sq ft as you would with inorganic fertilizer. Check the amount of nitrogen in whatever bag you buy. Keep it away from your well casing, as you would for any other fertilizer. https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/umd-extension-lawn-fertilizer-schedule-home-lawns vw
