Only licensed exterminators can use restricted pesticides that are most effective. A pesticide not labeled for this particular use will not kill bed bugs. Spraying bed bugs with 90% isopropyl rubbing alcohol will kill single insects on direct contact. However, isopropyl alchohol is highly flammable and should not be used to treat furniture or a home.

A more effective method for preventing and controlling the spread of bedbugs is to:

  • frequently vacuum the mattress and premises. Immediately place the vacuum cleaner bag in a tightly sealed bag and discard outdoors.
  • launder bedding and clothing in hot water (at least 120 degrees Farenheit) and dry on high heat (for 30+ minutes) . Afterwards, place in a tightly sealed bag
