Quack grass can be difficult to get rid of because of the underground root system (Rhizome) and how quickly it can spread into locations where its difficult to apply herbicide - and this includes home lawns as much as the garden. The best time for control is in the fall - with an application of round up (glyphosate). You can apply this in the spring but you will only kill the tops and not the root system. A fall application should work its way into and kill the Rhizomes.
