Zenith Zoysia grass

Asked March 18, 2016, 6:06 PM EDT

I want to plant Zenith Zoysia grass seed at my home in Medford, but the seed company says Zoysia is not recommended for Oregon, which is too cold. Medford has relatively mild winters compared with much of Oregon. Could Zoysia succeed there or would I be foolhardy to go ahead with it? Thank you for your help.

Zoysiagrass will service, but it will only be green when temperatures are 80 or higher, which may only be June, July, August and September. As the turf begins to turn brown in September inter-seed with perennial ryegrass.

If you don't want to inter-seed every fall plant tall fescue or perennial ryegrass and irrigate through the summer.
