home garden in Chestertown

Asked March 17, 2016, 7:21 AM EDT

I have a home on a creek in Chestertown. Would you recommend plants I might grow? Range from part shade to full shade. Dry pack sand. also need groundcover for wooded hillside that washes out when it rains. I'm interested in native plants where possible, and where to obtain them. This is a big question, so perhaps you might just refer me to a book or another reference? Thanks

This is indeed a huge question, best addressed by multiple books. You might start with http://www.nps.gov/plants/pubs/chesapeake/pdf/chesapeakenatives.pdf and then go to your local library to see what books they might have. Adkins Arboretum is a good source of native plants http://www.adkinsarboretum.org/. Also check your local garden centers. vw

Your response was very helpful. I'm looking forward to visiting the arboretum in May!

Kudos for taking your stewardship seriously.
