Sounds like oriental fruit moth, which causes fruit drop and gum (thick sap) on the surface of the fruit where the larval stage (a worm) tunnels into the fruit. You'll need to spray Imidan insecticide 4 times, beginning at petal fall and then at 10 day intervals (3 times). Prune out and dispose of any wilted branch tips, 6 inches between visible damage.
