Fertilize Christmas trees

Asked March 10, 2016, 9:43 AM EST

When is the best time to fertilize Christmas trees. I was at a conference once they suggested as soon as the snow leaves the ground. Thank you for your time. Tim Stein

Spring is a good time as long as the soil has thawed. Melting snow and ground thawing are separate events. You do not want to have the fertilizer run off because the ground was frozen.

Be sure that you have a soil test so you know you are applying what is needed which can be significantly different than just buying a bag of something.
