Is there some kind of certification to look for when hiring someone to maintain my landscape?

Generally speaking, landscape maintenance in Colorado is done by people without certification: it is a 'buyer beware' situation, and we recommend that before hiring someone, you ask them about their knowledge, education and experience. Depending on the work you need done, you also might determine whether they carry insurance.

At least two certifications in Colorado indicate an individual has some training: 1) 'certified landscape technician' is awarded by the Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado (http://www.alcc.com/ ), and 2) 'Colorado Master Gardener,' is awarded by Colorado Extension to individuals who have successfully completed 60 hours of instruction in a curriculum focused on home gardening.

If your work involves trees, we highly recommend you consult a certified arborist.
