Bonsai Tree

Asked February 19, 2016, 11:21 AM EST

Hello! I will attach pictures of the bonsai tree I purchased three years ago from the State Fair. I'm getting mixed messages on how to take care of it; and it looks to be in pretty bad shape. Can you give me some advice on how to keep it alive please?

You're right...this little tree is looking pretty rough. It's hard to tell by these photos but this appears to be some kind of evergreen, and if so it should spend the winters outside or in an unheated garage so that it can enter into a normal dormancy.

It looks a bit like it's been overwatered, but again, it's hard to tell from the photos.

Here is a link with lots of information about caring for bonsai plants:

The Como Conservatory has a bonsai collection. You might want to contact them to see if there is anyone who can give you further instructions on how to care for these plants.

Good luck, and thanks for contacting AaE!
