I'm interested in buying a farm to grow corn, soya beans, vegetables, and Alfalafa in New Jersey? My question is: Is farming a profitable business?

Farming is similar to other businesses in that it can be profitable and it can also be unprofitable. The challenges of farming are not unlike any other business with the added challenge of being very dependent on weather.

Many farmers value the life style of farming in addition to the actual profitability of their enterprises.

One source of data on the profitability of farming in New Jersey is the USDA, National Ag Statistics Service web site.
