Shares is one method of determining the method of payment for timber. It is an agreement between the seller (the landowner) and the buyer (the logger) about how revenue generated from harvesting and marketing timber will be split. As an example, the landowner and logger might agree to a 50 - 50 split of the revenue.

Look at the following link. It describes shares (and a LOT more) which might be relevant to you.

The amish that are logging are in need of transportation, what is a fair rate a mile to charge them? This is in central Mich..

Transportation for what purpose? The current Federal reimbursement rate for mileage using a personal vehicle for business purposes is $0.54/mile. That is the rate to get me somewhere for business purposes using my car.
