woodpecker damage to home - how to prevent

Asked January 7, 2016, 1:17 PM EST

There is a persistent Downy or Hairy woodpecker who has bored three sizeable holes in the siding and trim of my frame home. I live near Cherokee park in Clifton and there are a number of other suitable places to attract Woodpeckers but this fall my house is the preferred eatery!! What can I do to discourage the behavior to prevent recurrent damage once I get the current damage repaired.
