Succulent Type? Weird Flowers

Asked December 30, 2015, 10:19 PM EST

In a hanging basket in my greenhouse. Got from a friend who knows nothing about it. I've never seen anything like it. Pine needle looking roots(?) (limbs?) sticking out from joints, like porcupine. Lantern-like drooping flowers.

This is a Kalanchoe, and those look like dried flower stalks from prior blooming. They can be clipped back at the stem. Prune the plant back after bloom to promote a more compact plant and consider rooting the trimmings.
I'm not sure exactly which Kalanchoe it is. Coral Bells (Kalanchoe uniflora) is a possibility. Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi usually has scalloped leaves but similar bell-shaped flowers. There are others with bell-flowers. Nice to have something blooming now.
