What is this plant my dog loves to eat?

Asked December 11, 2015, 1:30 PM EST

These plants in my yard grow from this small tender size to much larger size. I have 3 dogs who don't normally eat grass. They search the yard for this particular plant. Can you please help me identify this plant to ensure the safety of my pets?

This plant appears to be the Canadian horseweed, Conyza canadensis. It is a common weed throughout North America and was used medicinally by Native American cultures. Additional information can be found here: http://plants.usda.gov/plantguide/pdf/pg_coca5.pdf
