Texas beef cattle

That is a difficult question to answer because there are several breeds that will work in each of the regions of Texas. A general rule of thumb is that in the south and east regions of Texas, Bos Taurus breeds (Brahman influenced breeds) work best because of their heat and insect tolerance. These would be Brahman, Beefmaster, Santa Gertrudis, Brangus and crosses of these breeds. In the north and west regions of the state Bos Indicus breeds work best because they are more cold tolerant. These would be breeds such as Angus, Hereford, Charolais, Simmental or crosses of these breeds. Angus is probably the most popular breed across the state because of their carcass traits.
