Lawn Seeding

Asked December 9, 2015, 4:25 PM EST

Given the mild weather, I would like to seed certain areas of my yard this weekend. Is it too late in the year to do this? Thank you

It is too late to seed. We do not recommend seeding after mid-October. It will take many days for the seeds to germinate (assuming that weather stays warm that long and soil temperature also remains high). Even if the weather was freaky enough to stay warm long enough, it will not remain so all winter and your new grass seedlings will not have had enough time to establish a strong root system before the harsh low temperatures hit and kill them.
