Organic pesticide for aphids

Asked December 2, 2015, 12:50 PM EST

I brought in my Kale plants for the winter (under a grow light in the basement). I'm getting an infestation of aphids on the leaves. Do you have a recipe for homemade spray pesticide that is effective?

We do not have a recipe but a strong spray of water is usually all that is needed to remove aphids. Kale needs to be watched for bunches of gray-green cabbage aphids, which can gather in the folds of frilly kale leaves. The aphids will also be on the underside of the leaves so those areas need to be sprayed thoroughly. It would be best to hold the kale under the faucet with a strong stream of water. Treat small problems with insecticidal soap or simply pick off and discard badly infested leaves.
