Old drywall

Asked November 25, 2015, 9:37 PM EST

We have drywall that has never been used. This drywall has been leaning against the wall for quite a few years. Would this drywall still be usable? Is there an expiration date or is there a paint coating you could use? I would say no but my spouse thinks it's still okay.

Please forgive my slowness in responding to this question. I took time to consult with the Gypsum Association to confirm my thoughts on your concern. There is no expiration date on drywall/Gypsum board. As long as it has not been damaged by water or fire, etc. during storage it is okay to use it.
