Looking for American Beech Tree plantings

Asked November 9, 2015, 11:59 AM EST

Hello. I wish to plant some American Beech trees on my property but have had no luck in finding any for sale. I hate to take some from the woods (don't like to transplant those if I can help it) and was looking for some nursery variety. Do you have a resource for someone who might sell them locally or on line? I truly love these trees and want to propagate the tree.

I understand how it can be a challenge to find a specific variety or specie of tree.

Collecting seed from existing trees or taking soft tissue cuttings in the spring may be an option as well. Plant propagation is relatively simple and inexpensive.

Many nurseries sell trees online and have the latest cultivar selections. Local nurseries may have the American beech available in the spring or be willing to order stock for you.

The KY Division of Forestry sells tree seedlings several times a year. I did not see American beech as a current selection but their seedling stock could change.

The Arbor Day Foundation also has selections available, so they may be a resource for you as well.

Feel free to contact our office if you have other questions.

Let me know if I can help you further!
