Yellow mold at the base of a palm. Separate palm has the small flecks.

Asked November 9, 2015, 9:54 AM EST

What is causing a bright yellow mold to grow at the base of a house palm tree? What should I do? There is a small beige fleck attaching to stems and leaves of some of my house plants. What should I spray, I have treated with Bayer insect spray earlier in summer when plant outside, but still persistent on plant.

We can't tell what the yellow at the base of the plant is. Simply scrape it off and throw it away. Make sure the roots of the plant are covered with soil. The palm in the photos attached to this question looks great, and we'd have no concerns.
