Best no carbs foods to buy at grocery store
Most foods in each section of MyPlate will have some level of carbohydrates. Animal proteins, hard cheeses, and oils typically contain few, if any, carbohydrates, but often have a lot of fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol. Too much of these nutrients can increase the risk of high cholesterol and heart disease over time.
While these low/no-carb foods have a place in our diet, it is not recommended to completely cut carbs out. You would miss out on the important nutrients found in fruits, veggies, dairy, and whole grains.
However, reducing the amount of simple and refined carbohydrates in your diet can offer important health benefits. Simple carbs are sources of added sugar. Refined carbs are foods made from refined grains. Simple or refined carbohydrates to limit include:
- Sugary drinks - soda, chocolate milk, juice drinks, coffee drinks, etc.
- Refined grains - white bread, white pasta, white rice, sugary cereals, etc.
- Sweets - candy, cookies, cakes, desserts, chocolate, etc.
