Cherry trees

Asked November 2, 2015, 11:01 PM EST

What are the best species of Cherry trees to grow in East Central Minnesota. I believe I am in Zone 2 (near Sturgeon Lake). I'm building a new house and want to get a small orchard going. My soil type is Duluth Heavy Loam. I have a gentle south slope that is well drained and about 4 acres total. I have access to irrigation if needed. Suggestions on species (including other types of fruit trees), soil prep, and sources of stock would be greatly appreciated. Chris

The University of Minnesota has a good resource page with fruit recommendations for Minnesota. http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/yard-garden/fruit/
