lace leaf red maple shrub

Asked October 30, 2015, 2:07 PM EDT

I have an old ( 25 yrs) red lace leaf shrub which is now dying on one half of the shrub. I noticed the trunk is split, but its been that way for years. I don't want to lose it & want to know if there is some type of treatment or care I can give it

Keep it watered during drought. Prune off the dead part. There is not much else you can do. Japanese maples often decline for not reason that is apparent to the naked eye. Could be a root rot, drought, or winter damage.
