Pond algae

Asked October 27, 2015, 2:41 PM EDT

My 1-1 1/2 acre pond in Hunt County is covered in a brownish floating algae. Is there a safe way to remove it? I have bass and catfish in it. Thank you. Kathy

We need to first identify exactly what type of algae (or possibly other pond weed) you have to know the treatment. Take a look at the website aquaplant.tamu.edu
There you can see photos of all pond weeds for ID. There is a section of the different algaes. If you see what you have, you can then click on management options to see how to best treat. If you can not identify, or still have questions after viewing the website, feel free to contact me at the Hunt County Extension Office. 903-455-9885 or you may email me direct at slallen@ag.tamu.edu
