Can you help me wintering over my gardenia?

Hello. I have a gardenia that I would like some advice on wintering it over. I realize that it should not be fertilized during the non-growing season, but it seems to suffer over the winter with just watering. Please help! Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to refer you to an article published by Purdue University on growing gardenias. In their native habitat, gardenias are evergreens, so they do not experience a period of dormancy like our zone 5-4 plants.
