testing a pressure cooker/ canner

Asked October 22, 2015, 2:04 PM EDT

I just bought an old National No 7 pressure cooker/ canner. All the parts are present and it looks to be in good shape, however, I have read several places that I should have it tested at the local agricultural extension. Is this something you do? Jared

Yes, this is very important part to make sure your canner is working at proper pressure. http://extension.psu.edu/food/preservation/news/2012/pressure-canning-dial-gauge-testing

Call the York office to see if they have a pressure gauge test unit at that location: 717-840-7408. If not, the Lancaster office has one. Contact Martha Zepp to set up a time to test. She is in on Wed. mornings: 717 394-6851.
Thank you, G.
