Praying Mantis

Asked October 12, 2015, 9:29 AM EDT

I have a praying mantis on my front porch. It has grown up in a big plant out there over the summer. I found it this morning hanging on the porch railing very still. It has both front legs quite tight together, but it raises it's head very slowly to look at me. What can I do, if anything, to help this wonderful insect stay warm? It is definitely a different color.

We do not recommend that you do anything special other than let nature take its course. It is possible that the mantid may lay eggs. These eggs are usually in an egg case attached to a a branch or structure that can overwinter outdoors.
