Red Mushroom Identity

Asked September 30, 2015, 8:00 PM EDT

I found red small mushrooms in my lawn. They have white gills. No spots. Animals have chewed on them. They are about 2"-4" in diameter and low to the ground. Also flat colored. Can you please identify them? We are in Central Oregon in a wooded area, sandy soil although these are in our lawn. We are at 4200'.

This is a species of Russula, and it is likely poisonous. Most red-capped species are really bitter and cause vomiting and diarrhea. Without microscopic examination, that's the best I can do.
