Can you identify this snake

Asked September 28, 2015, 10:32 AM EDT

I found this snake on my stone walkway yesterday morning (09/27/15) at 10:30am. It was approximately 65 degrees. I attempted to relocate the snake into the woods behind my property but it was too fast and got away. The snake was approximately 12-14 inches, but on the thin side. Is this snake venimous? Jesse

Your snake is an Eastern Gartersnake. It is not venomous. All of our snakes are beneficial, and in fact, snakes are protected in Maryland. Your attempt to re-locate the snake was appropriate.
