Worms on Red Buds

Asked September 23, 2015, 3:57 PM EDT

I have two Eastern Red Bud trees. Both have been infected with a small, about 1/2 inch white/cream colored worm inside a web usually on individual leaves. Also leaves inside web have lots of small black beads in them. Only the Red Buds are infected. What can I use to kill them or just pick the leaves off.to control them. Thanks for your help.

This sounds like fall webworm. The 'small black beads' are their droppings, which for caterpillars in general, might be the first sign you notice.

They are not of great concern. You can simply clip them out and put the nest in soapy water, or just break it open and allow natural predators (birds etc.) to eat them.
