Asked September 19, 2015, 5:18 PM EDT

I live in Sioux County and am wondering if it is too late ( sept.18 ) to plant grass. Spot is 1 1/2 feet wide along the west side of my house and gets plenty of sun?

Mid-August to mid-September is the best time to sow grass seed in Iowa.

Seed sowing efforts after October 1 are usually unsuccessful.

Seed sowing efforts in late September can be successful if the weather in October and early November is favorable (warmer than normal). Colder than normal weather likely results in a poor stand of grass.
