English ivy is extremely difficult to get rid of. Being persisent in pulling it up is probably the most effective way. English ivy has a waxy coating on the leaves that protects it from herbicides. If it is going up trees, you can cut it where it comes out of the ground and the ivy that is up in the tree will die there without your having to pull it off the tree. If you have woody stems, you can paint glyphosate (active ingredient in RoundUp and other products) on the cut stems as soon as you make the cut. This will be most effective in the fall. http://extension.oregonstate.edu/yamhill/sites/default/files/Ivy_Removal_Fact_Sheet.pdf http://www.nps.gov/plants/alien/fact/hehe1.htm vw
