Honeycrisp Apple Spot

Asked September 17, 2015, 4:16 PM EDT

My apples develop brownish spots while on the tree and after picking. Peeling removes the damage and they are still really good. Am wondering if this is a soil fertility problem or a fungal type cause?

This sounds like a physiological problem called bitter pit. This is caused by warm weather and a lack of calcium. This winter put ag lime around the trees. Go to. PNW PLANT DISEASE HANDOOK Then look up apple, bitter pit. Or drop a sample off at the Benton co Extension.
