What is this black insect flying all over our yard?

Asked September 4, 2015, 3:56 PM EDT

I am noticing black moths flying all over our yard. They pop out of our perennials and shrubs. They are about 3/4 inches and arrow shaped. This started about 5 days ago. Something tells me this is not good. I do not grow vegetables except for herbs. Also grow many perennials.
