Rocks on Oak Tree Roots

Asked September 3, 2015, 4:45 PM EDT

Our property has a big oak tree, maybe 30-40' tall, and the soil at its base erodes with heavy rains. If rocks are placed at the base of the tree, covering all visible roots, will they damage the tree and/or its roots? Thank you!

Rocks won't damage the trees as they will allow for good oxygen levels to still reach roots, as opposed to piling soil over the root system.
