When is the best time to transplant wisteria?

Asked August 31, 2015, 10:34 PM EDT

Unfortunately, I need to transplant my 'Summer Cascade' wisteria. It's doing very well and is even reblooming now! I have had it three years. Would spring be the best time to do that, just as it emerges? Should I trim it at all this fall, or wait to do that right before I move it? How much should I trim it? I assume I will sacrifice blooms for next spring. Any advice is most welcome.

I wouldn't transplant your wisteria this late in the season. Allow it to store energy for next year. You can move it early next spring and will probably have to do some trimming at the time to make the move easier. Make sure to give it TLC after moving to help it settle into the new home.
